JAMES WATSON

VIOLIN

ABOUT JAMES

James Watson is a composer, teacher, and performer who has been practicing the violin since the age of 7. Originally from Kamloops B.C. he began his studies with Dr. Cvetozar Vutev, later moving to Calgary and pursuing his musical studies past the university level with Joan Barrett.

Since earning his Bachelors of Music (with a minor in Linguistics) from the University of Calgary in 2021, James' pursuit of music has been off to a promising start, with two residencies at Calgary's cSpace and Grand Theatre already under his belt, a variety of recording projects from contemporary classical to art-pop and post-hardcore metal, and a hand in several newly founded ensembles. Presently James is teaching at Bowtown Music and Leroux Studios, and is an active freelance musician in Calgary's music community. Additionally, James’ diverse performing experience has led him to perform alongside accomplished musicians in varying fields such as two-time Canadian Fiddle Champion Scott Woods, jazz legend Dr. Jeremy Brown, Calgary’s Timepoint Ensemble, and the Juno-nominated ensemble L’Orchestre de la Francophonie. James remains an enthusiastic music maker and looks forward to what the future may bring.
